Thoracic Surgery Professional Education

Advanced Techniques in Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy Preceptorship

This preceptorship is designed for cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeons and their surgical teams (scrub PA, SA, RNFA, CST, etc.) who wish to learn more about VATS Lobectomy and Segmentectomy. Surgical team members will join their surgeon in interacting with the faculty’s OR team to refine their clinical skills and discuss ways to improve patient outcomes. Instruction on the safe and effective use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family will be emphasized, and faculty will be available for discussion and case review throughout the day.

Robotic Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS): Refining the Skills of the Surgical Team

Interactive OR preceptorship for those interested in refining their robotic-assisted thoracic procedures skills. The program will address patient selection, procedural indications and contraindications, and techniques. Instruction on the safe and effective use of non-robotic bedside instrumentation, including the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family will be emphasized.

Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy: A Practical, Hands-on Experience

This preceptorship with animate laboratory experience is designed for thoracic surgeons and their surgical teams who have experience performing VATS and wish to expand their minimally invasive techniques to include VATS Lobectomy. Instruction on the safe and effective utilization of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family will be emphasized, and learners will have the opportunity to practice surgical techniques.

Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy Course

The course will address patient selection, procedural indications and contraindications, techniques, and management of potential complications. The case review will emphasize the safe and effective use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, ENSEAL® Product Family, and Ethicon biosurgery products. A faculty-led, hands-on cadaveric lab will allow the learner to utilize the instrumentation and surgical techniques discussed in the program.

Advanced Thoracic Surgery Roundtable: Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and Uniportal Resections

Interactive course begins with a discussion on the latest clinical data and surgical techniques for advanced thoracic surgery, including traditional and uniportal VATS approaches. Course participants will have the opportunity to share and present challenging case presentations, and will engage in discussions regarding best practices in the treatment of resectable pulmonary and mediastinal disease. Discussions will emphasize the safe and efficacious use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family.

Advanced Thoracic Surgery Roundtable: Robotic Approaches

Interactive course begins with a discussion on current clinical data and surgical techniques for Robotic Approaches to Advanced Thoracic Surgery, then provides opportunities similar to the other Roundtables. Clinical discussions will emphasize the safe and efficacious use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family. Participants will discuss best practices in robotic-assisted approaches to pulmonary, mediastinal, and esophageal disease treatment.

Advanced Thoracic Surgery Roundtable: Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy

Interactive course begins with a faculty-led discussion on the current clinical data and surgical techniques for minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE), then provides opportunities for participants to share and present challenging cases. Participants will engage in discussions regarding best practices for MIE (e.g., VATS Ivor Lewis, McKeown, robotic, etc.) in the treatment of resectable esophageal disease. Clinical discussions will emphasize the safe and efficacious use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family.

Comprehensive Approaches to Advanced Thoracic Surgery

This interactive course allows the learner to engage in discussions on traditional VATS pulmonary resections, robotic-assisted VATS resections, uniportal VATS resections, and minimally invasive esophagectomies (MIEs). Clinical discussions will emphasize the safe and efficacious use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family. The afternoon of the second day will consist of a faculty-led laboratory session with learners performing the approach of their choice (space permitting).

Topics in Thoracic Surgery: A Primer for Residents and Fellows

This program provides the thoracic fellow or I-6 resident with opportunities to discuss the latest advances in thoracic surgery. Interactive sessions will address patient selection, current topics in thoracic surgery, VATS techniques, and skills for managing potential complications. Practical sessions will discuss moving beyond formal training into surgical practice. Interactive and didactic discussions will emphasize the safe and efficacious use of the ECHELON FLEX™ Powered ENDOPATH® Stapler family, HARMONIC® Product Family, and/or ENSEAL® Product Family.
